Spring is here and while many of us are excited about the warmer weather and blooming flowers, for some it also means the onset of hay fever or seasonal allergies.
Pollen allergies, also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis, affect millions of people every year. The symptoms can be uncomfortable and even debilitating, with sneezing, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes.
If you are among the many who suffer from pollen allergies, it is important to take steps to prevent and manage your symptoms. In this article, we will share some tips and strategies for coping with pollen allergies and enjoying the spring season to its fullest.

TIPS
Useful tips to deal with pollen allergies
If you are allergic to pollen, here are some tips to protect yourself:
• Check pollen forecasts on local news and online sources and plan to spend less time outdoors when pollen levels are high.
• Take medications and seek advice from doctors if there are symptoms.
• Avoid exposure to pollen by not touching your eyes while you are outside, wash your hands when you go back inside, and use goggles if necessary.
• Change your clothes, and shower if possible to rise off pollen from your skin and hair.
• Keep windows closed during periods of high pollen.

Tsinghua has also taken measures to alleviate pollen allergies, including:
• Installation of high-altitude spraying equipment in areas where cypress trees are concentrated for morning and evening spraying
• Use of high-pressure water guns to spray alcohol on the cypress trees on both sides of the main road of the campus at night
• Use of medium-sized electric spraying vehicles to spray clean water on green areas with high pollen concentration
• Use of a small manpower sprayer to spray clean water to wash pollen-intensive narrow areas
• Spray flushing of low flowering shrubs prone to pollen by hand watering
• Injecting willows with relevant agents to control catkin formation
• Distribution of masks, goggles, and other anti-pollen materials to students, and provision of seminars to educate students on the topic
• Tsinghua University Hospital released the latest handbook "Questions and Answers on Allergic Rhinitis" for better guidance through living with pollen allergy.
